These are educational trips that families can do that support state standards and promote family togetherness. It is important that students are exposed to certain things and are able to talk about them.

                                                 September

The field trips recommended for September are the following: Go to the Library and sign up for a library card if your child doesn't have one already. The library has lots of free learning programs that students can attend. Pick a day each week to take your child to the library to check out books and read with and to your child for 20 minutes each day. Starting in October lots of schools have the Book It! program where students can earn Pizza Hut pizzas for books that they read. The weekly library trip could support this.

Another field trip that you can take for September is to an orchard or a farm. This is the time for apple and pumpkin harvest and is a great learning opportunity.

When you go on these great field trips. don't forget to have a time where you talk to your child about what they have seen. Studies have shown that today's children do not have enough opportunities to talk to adults about different topics. This has a direct affect on school work specifically in the area of writing. Students just don't know what to write about because they never have an opportunity to talk to anybody about anything. Try to have a family meal together at least once a day and talk about things.
