I've long maintained Somalia would be the next hot spot for a global and/or NATO response (beyond what's been done at sea), and this just reinforces things.  It's little wonder al Qaeda seeks recruits, nor that they are examining utilizing the pirates for their financial gain as well; I would also venture to say they are additionally looking for their next hideout if they are ran out of Afghanistan.  In turn, the pirates get greater access to the things they want, like weapons that really can go BOOM.

The government is seeking a strange bedfellow in these pirates, but it's a nasty business they are dealing with over there, and things could get really bad.
