How is war worth leaving so many with PTSD, other mental illnesses, and physically damaged and suffering?  What is worth that?

In the current case, nothing. . .

When war is for actual defense against an aggressor invading ones land, I say it may well be worth it. When it is an offensive used to facilitate an easier path to wealth for a few, I say it's not. It was VERY telling when US forces went after Bin Laden, almost had him but were pulled off to go to Iraq. I'm sure it was just a coincidence that the family of Osama was using Bush Sr. and Jr. as consultants for their company.

If World War 2 were fought today, I'm sure we'd lose. Not because of our soldiers but because of our self serving leaders. My WW2 veteran father died VERY disappointed in the current leadership in this country! That just sucks!
