Birds Need Winter Food, do you feed the birds?

Put out feeders for them, heated water baths, shelter to combat the cold.

In terms of winter shelter, a quick and inexpensive shelter is using milk cartons.  I tried this last winter and the birds (and squirrels) took to them with no fuss.  You can use either half gallon or gallon containers.  I cut out the indented circle areas on the cartons (careful not to leave any sharp plastic edges) and tied them to the fenceline in different areas with some plant wire.  They feed from them and will get inside when weather is bad. 

I would also suggest saving lots of money by making your own suet, and during the spring/summer, let some of the plants that eventually come up from birds kicking seed around to grow - they'll eat it sooner or later!

'i' have a picture to prove over 50 redbirds attended a feeding on the back deck, couldn't get a count by watching ( much less the ratio of girls to boys ) so took a picture & then counted. Girls outnumbered boys; naturally!  ::D:
