I dunno why the Dems are so afraid of talking about this.  I can only speak for myself, but I think the general concensus at the time of the bailout was we would never see a dime of the monies returned, that this money would all go up in smoke via corporate cigars and generations to come would pay for it.  Now, with even conservative estimates reflecting a return on the investment, why won't they put it out there that this supposedly really bad plan did have a positive impact on our economy?  Note:  I still think one of the reasons why AIG got such massive assistance was because they (the govt.) were hoping to utilize the company's existing health insurance lines to convert to a public option.  One of the repayment options announced yesterday was AIG coughed up even more shares, and now the govt. owns an amazing 90%+ of the stocks, some of which will be sold on the public market in the future.  Sometimes it takes money to make money.

AND perhaps the Republicans can put some spin on this:  "the TARP monies were put into place during the Bush Administration!"

Okay, let's be clear on that one:  Obama and team, already voted into office but a few weeks shy of actually taking office, worked with the Bush administration to get this thing up and running because we were on such fragile ground.  At that point, Bush was looking for anything he could to take a little tarnish off his reputation, but still - I can see the spin doctors hard at work, ha ha!!!

It's still messed up, but I still believe if something hadn't been done, things would've been nasty.

I too believe that had this not taken place that things today would be far worse than they are. Was it the right thing to do? History will tell the tale and today it just depends on which side of the wall you reside as to how you see it.

The government had to do something that much is clear, and rarely are the actions of government well received in the times within which they are undertaken. . .

QuoteSome are  lazy and some are not, some are achievers and some would rather sit around and wait for entitlements from the government.

There is your spin.
